Introduction

Monday's chamber concert will feature a piano trio of internationally renowned artists.

Pianist Laura Mikkola has performed on the world's most prestigious concert stages and collaborated with many renowned conductors. Mikkola has recorded Einojuhani Rautavaara's collected piano works and Erkki-Sven Tüür's Piano Concerto with Paavo Järvi and the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra.

Violinist Linda Lampenius has performed for audiences of millions and royalty and has played on North America's best-selling recordings during a career that has taken her to international arenas. A genre-bending and versatile musician, she has also played as principal violinist with the National Opera Orchestra and performed chamber music in Europe, Asia and the United States. The piano trio with Laura Mikkola is one of Lampenius' longest-standing ensembles.

Cellist Jaani Helander is a member of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Joensuu and Hämeenlinna City Orchestras, the Guard's Band in Finland and the Spirit of Europe Orchestra in Austria. Helander is also Artistic Director of the Helsinki Chamber Music Festival.

The trio's programme includes traditional piano trios by Ludwig van Beethoven and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and the Päärme Trio by Lotta Wennäkoski, who has risen to the forefront of contemporary Finnish composers. Wennäkoski says that her trio is inspired by the whimsical, colourful quilting and the cool nature of the actual main theme.
